self-treat stress without a counsellor and manage your own stress levels

That is the dictionary definition of Stress. But the dictionary can’t define how YOUR stress affects YOU.

Stress can have an impact on you in a wide range of ways, it can cause mental and emotional pressure. When you have feelings of stress you may start to feel that you are unable to cope. There are many ways that modern life can cause stress, this may be through work, relationships, money problems or any combination of these and other things.

Unfortunately, when you are feeling stressed, it gets in the way. It’s even more difficult to look at what is causing you stress and in turn this can spill over into other areas of your life that previously were working well for you.

Through our counselling sessions we will look at your experience of stress, what it feels like for you and the impact that it is having on your life, work and relationships.

Each person feels stress in their own way, it affects how you feel, behave and how your body is functioning. This may show in loss of appetite, sleeping problems, sweating and difficulty in concentrating. This may then link into feelings of anxiety and you could get irritable, overly worry about normal everyday things or have thoughts racing through your mind at a thousand miles an hour.

Stress is not an illness in itself, but if left untreated can cause serious psychological problems and even physical illnesses. The first thing we will do is to recognise your stress and identify what is causing it. Once we have this nailed, we can look at ways to recognise the signs and symptoms and in turn help you to figure out healthy coping methods.

My counselling room here in Storrington, Sussex on the edge of the South Downs is a safe and confidential place where we can look at these things together.
